Common Boiler Faults We Repair
- No hot water, or hot water but no heating. Usually a diverter valve, a failed thermistor or a controls fault. We diagnose it on the first visit in most cases.
- Boiler losing pressure. Often a failed expansion vessel, a leaking pressure relief valve, or a leak somewhere on the system. If the gauge has dropped just once, repressurising may be all it needs — we’ve got a video showing you how.
- Cold radiators or a gurgling system. Frequently trapped air, and bleeding the radiators fixes it. If that doesn’t work it’s usually sludge in the system, and a power flush will do more for you than a repair.
- Boiler locked out or showing a fault code. F28, EA, E119 and the rest each point somewhere specific. Read us the code when you ring and we’ll usually know the likely cause and which part to bring.
- Boiler leaking water. Turn the system off and call us. A leak damages the boiler further every hour it runs.
- Boiler keeps switching itself off. Low pressure, a blocked condensate pipe in cold weather, or a failing thermostat.
- Pilot light or ignition failure. Common on older boilers — usually the electrode or the gas valve.
What Happens When We Come Out
We find the fault, tell you what it will cost to fix, and get your agreement before we do anything.
We hold common parts and source the rest from several distributors, so most repairs are completed on the first visit or the next day.
If a repair isn’t worth doing, we’ll tell you that instead of selling you one.
What a Boiler Repair Costs
It depends on the fault and the part. We diagnose first and quote before any work starts, so you’ll never get a bill you haven’t already agreed to. There’s no extra call-out fee for emergencies.

Repair it, or replace it?
Replacement is usually the better value if two or more of these are true:
- The boiler is over 12–15 years old
- The repair costs more than about a third of a new boiler
- It’s broken down more than once in the last year
- Parts are becoming hard to source
- It’s a non-condensing model, so you’re paying an efficiency penalty every month
We’ll give you an honest view on the day. If a new boiler is the sensible call, we’re Worcester Bosch accredited, we can offer guarantees of up to 12 years, and we have finance options available.

FAQs - Boiler Repairs in Milton Keynes
How much does a boiler repair cost? It depends on the fault and the part needed. We diagnose first and quote before starting, so nothing appears on the bill that you haven’t agreed to. There’s no extra call-out fee for emergencies.
How quickly can you come out? We aim to be with you within hours of your call. Ring 01908 579 100 and we’ll tell you the soonest we can get to you.
Do you repair all makes of boiler? Yes. Worcester Bosch, Vaillant, Ideal, Baxi, Glow-worm, Viessmann, Potterton and the rest. We’re Worcester Bosch accredited.
My boiler is showing a fault code. What does it mean? Fault codes are manufacturer-specific — F28 on a Vaillant doesn’t mean the same as F28 on an Ideal. Read us the code when you call and we’ll usually know the cause and which part to bring.
Can I fix low boiler pressure myself? Often, yes. If the gauge has dropped below about 1 bar, repressurising through the filling loop usually solves it, and we’ve got a video showing how. If the pressure keeps dropping there’s a leak or a failed expansion vessel, and that needs an engineer.
Is it worth repairing an old boiler? If it’s over 12–15 years old and the repair costs more than about a third of a new boiler, replacement is usually better value. We’ll tell you honestly which side of that line you’re on.
Are your engineers Gas Safe registered? Yes. HDS is registered under 593411. Ask any engineer for their Gas Safe card and check the number on the register.
