Could a new energy-efficient boiler from HDS Plumbing & Heating save you money?
A high percentage of homeowners don’t consider installing a new boiler until their existing one breaks down – is it worth the hassle and expense?
But you will be surprised how much a new boiler can reduce your regular heating bills. Some older boiler models have a fuel-to-heat efficiency as low as 60%, while new boilers can be as high as 90%. That difference can save you money, and it’s also better for the environment.
Furthermore, you can receive up to a 12-year guarantee on your new energy-efficient boiler, giving you complete peace of mind for the years ahead.
What are the signs that my boiler may need to be replaced?
Several factors will help identify that your boiler may need replacement. First, your pilot light should burn blue, and if it’s either yellow or orange, you should contact us immediately.
Another critical potential sign is the noise from your boiler or radiator. If you find that suddenly either of these appliances increases in noise level, there could be a problem.
Our HDS Plumbing & Heating engineer may suggest a power flush of your heating system to see if this helps eradicate the problem. But, if the noise sounds humming or banging, it could be a much bigger issue. Lastly and just as important, any evidence of leaks or strange smells coming from your boiler should be treated as urgent. Please call us on 01908 579 100, so we can advise you on the next steps.

Combi Boilers
A combination or ‘combi’ boiler is both a high efficiency water heater and a central heating boiler in a single compact unit.
- Perfect for smaller homes
- No need for hot water cylinder
- No risk of lift pipework freezing
- Less pipework makes installations cheaper
System Boilers
System boilers require a cylinder for storing hot water, however the major heating and hot water system components are built into the boiler itself, making it quicker and easier to install.
- Ideal for homes with more than one bathroom
- Constant supply of hot water to any number of taps at the same time
- Economical to run
Regular Boilers
Regular boilers (sometimes known as traditional, conventional or heat only boilers) are ideally suited to homes that already have a traditional heating and hot water system which is linked to a separate hot water cylinder.
- Perfect for homes where a lot of hot water is used at the same time
- Ideal where there are two or more bathrooms
- A good option for homes that have low water pressure
